Contemporary Art for Children

As a mom to two boys, I’m pretty f—ing sick of seeing prints of fire engines, cars, dinosaurs and insects. Luckily for me, I’m married to a modern art collector/afficionado and blogger of PopDrawer, who has kept the walls in our kids’ bedrooms mercifully free of mass-produced kiddie art. But for all you other art-appreciating parents who need a little help curating their little one’s future art collection, LittleCollector is a site for pastel-sore eyes. This site features contemporary art by leading modern artists that is kid-friendly and very affordable. Here’s a sampling of some of the cool illustrations and photographs available.

1. Shepard Fairey’s Obey Elephant is only $40 for an unframed 8 x 10 print.

2. Julie Heffernan: Study for Self Portrait Holding a World.

3. Margaret Morrison: Fisher Price People

4. Inka Essenhigh: Green Goddess II

In addition to the well curated art collection, what’s so great about this site is the Art 101 section which teaches kids about the fundamentals of art so they can learn to appreciate it better. There’s an A to Z glossary and biographies of famous artist through history. I know I learned a thing or two. Check it out.
